Hennessy Cognac has claimed first place in the Alcoholic Spirits category in the annual Sunday Times Top Brands Survey, beating competitors Jamesons, Johnnie Walker and Chivas Regal.  Conducted by TNS Research Surveys, the annual survey provides a representative snapshot across various categories on how brands have fared in the last 12 months.

2011 marks the first year Hennessy Cognac has been listed in the survey and it’s only fitting that in their debut they walked away with first place – confirmation that Hennessy has become the definitive luxury spirit of choice in South Africa.

Brand Manager for South Africa, Avukile Mabombo commented, “There’s a growing resurgence of the cognac category in South Africa and as a leading international luxury brand we are now not only pioneering the category but premium spirits in general.” He added, “We couldn’t have achieved this status without consumers who have shown their appreciation for a quality product.”

In order to claim the position, Hennessy Cognac was rated against the three main criteria, namely brand familiarity, brand rating/user experience and brand presence/size. TNS conducted interviews with 3500 consumers and 400 business leaders and decision makers to ensure a credible outcome.

Hennessy Cognac is owned by LVMH Moët Hennessy, a world leader in luxury and is the most established of all luxury Cognac houses worldwide.
